Tani, Rich is definitely a philistine –what’s not to like about violets? I suppose he wants a lawn that’s without flaw — and without work. Harumph!

Jan, the petals are camellia. I took the photos about a month ago (confession time), but kept them because I loved the one with the steps. The bamboo is an astonishing grove, in the neighborhood, on the property of what I think must be a professional gardner specializing in bamboo. (His license plate reads “BAMBOO”. The gardner actually trimmed out a huge number of enormous stalks, and after this photo was taken, I watched the babies pop up and grow (two feet a day), including one close enough to the sidewalk that I could caress it as I walked by. It’s just shed its fuzz.

What are the pink petals? Dogwood? Is that your bamboo? Ours has not been doing well with these cold late springs the past few years.

  3. Tani says:

Love the violets. We have them scattered throughout our lawn. My husband is not a fan.

Barbara — be careful, or I will sing to you.

No words are needed – what could anyone say that would add to those pictures, but I love to hear you run on anyway.
